Kitchen / Break Room Cleaning Checklist

  • Clean and Disinfect Countertops, Tables, and Chairs
Wipe down all countertops, tables, and chairs to remove any crumbs, spills, or stains. Use a disinfectant cleaner to ensure all surfaces are sanitized, especially in areas where food is prepared or eaten.

  • Wash and Sanitize Sinks, Taps, and Draining Boards
Clean the sink, taps, and draining boards thoroughly to remove any food debris, soap scum, or water stains. Use a sanitizing solution to disinfect these areas to prevent the buildup of bacteria and germs.

  • Clean and Disinfect Appliances
Wipe down and disinfect all kitchen appliances, such as microwaves, refrigerators, coffee makers, and toasters. Pay special attention to handles, buttons, and any areas that see frequent use. Clean the exterior and interior of the fridge to ensure it is free of spills, crumbs, and stains.

  • Wipe Down and Disinfect Cabinet Doors and Handles
Clean and disinfect the outside of cabinet doors and handles. These areas often collect grease and fingerprints, so ensure they are wiped down thoroughly to keep them hygienic.

  • Empty and Sanitize Waste Bins
Empty all waste bins in the kitchen or break room and replace the liners. Sanitize the interior of the bins and the exterior if necessary to prevent odors and bacteria buildup. Don’t forget to disinfect any recycling bins or compost containers.

  • Sweep and Mop Floors
Sweep the floor to remove crumbs, dust, and debris, and then mop with a suitable floor cleaner to keep the space looking fresh and clean. Be sure to clean around and underneath tables, chairs, and appliances to catch any hidden messes.

  • Clean and Disinfect the Interior and Exterior of the Microwave
Clean both the interior and exterior of the microwave, including the turntable. Remove any food splatters, spills, or stains inside, and wipe down the outside and buttons. A disinfectant cleaner can be used to sanitize the areas that touch food or are frequently used.

  • Remove Food Spills or Stains from Surfaces and Floors
Promptly address any food spills or stains on countertops, tables, and floors. Use appropriate cleaners to remove these stains and prevent any lingering odors or residue.

  • Clean and Sanitize Communal Utensils, Plates, and Cups
Wash and sanitize any communal utensils, plates, and cups that are used by multiple people. Ensure they are thoroughly cleaned to prevent the spread of germs and ensure the kitchen is stocked with clean dishes for everyone to use.
